Justin Burns named “Player of the Year,” Bakari Bryant “Coach of the Year”

The coaches from Region 1-AAA have selected Monroe senior Justin Burns as the region’s “Player of the Year” and Dougherty Head Coach Bakari Bryant as “Coach of the Year.”

As tournament time begins in earnest, Burns has averaged 16.8 points per game in leading the Tornadoes to a 20-5 record and the top spot in Region 1-AAA. Bryant has surpassed the 250-win total in his coaching career and has the Trojans in second place in the region.

The coaches also selected Monroe’s Lorenzo Still to the first team All-Region team along with three Dougherty players – Kaleke Singletary-Jinks, Jawuan Jinks, Jr., and Jai’on Burns.

The second team selections included Monroe’s Jaquan Maddox and Nehemiah Tinch plus Dougherty’s Markelle Jones.

Carver’s Tony Montgomery earned the “Offensive Player of the Year” award and Crisp County’s Zakariyyah Dwight took the “Defensive Player of the Year” title.
