ATLANTA (TNS) — Miami Dolphins running back Kenyan Drake took his jersey-swapping game to another level on Sunday.
The exchange of jerseys after games is a growing trend in the NFL. But on Sunday, the former Alabama standout traded his Miami jersey for the jersey of Atlanta Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson before an MLB game.
Drake attended Hillgrove High School in Powder Springs, Georgia. Dansby attended Marietta High School. The schools are about 8 miles apart northwest of Atlanta. Both Drake and Swanson graduated from high school in 2012 and apparently have known each other since Little League baseball.
On Sunday, Drake saw the Braves complete a sweep of their first National League series in SunTrust Park. Atlanta defeated the San Diego Padres 9-2, even though Swanson went 0-for-4 as the Braves’ shortstop.
Former Mobile BayBears outfielder Ender Inciarte, who hit 13 home runs in his first three big-league seasons, slugged his fourth four-bagger in four games as Atlanta’s center fielder on Sunday.
After Hillgrove, Drake went to Alabama, where he played on the Crimson Tide’s 2012 and 2015 national-championship football teams. He joined the Dolphins as a third-round choice in the 2016 NFL Draft.
After Marietta, Swanson went to Vanderbilt, where he played on the Commodores’ 2014 national-championship baseball team. He was the first player picked in the 2015 MLB draft.
Drake was an avid jersey swapper during his rookie season, including an exchange with former Alabama teammate and fellow NFL rookie Derrick Henry when the Dolphins played the Tennessee Titans in a preseason game.
