Lady Cats blast Miller County, Wildcats whip Bears

The Westwood Lady Cats (15-2) blew out Miller County 66-31 Friday and the Wildcats blasted host Baker County 76-32 in the Bear Brawl at Baker County High School. Westwood is the only GISA affiliated school competing in the Bear Brawl with the other GHSA schools.
The Lady Cats jumped out to an early lead and built a huge 34-13 lead and were never threatened. Junior point guard Brianna Thompson had her biggest scoring day of the season so far as she pumped in 23 points to lead Westwood. Senior forward Gracie Pollock was right behind her witJOnes h 21 points and Karlie Jones scored 10. Jones pulled down 11 rebounds and Pollock grabbed 10. Pollock and Thompson had eight steals each.
After a tight first quarter, the Westwood boys outscored the Baker County Bears 19-9 to take a 36-20 lead into the half and then totally dominated the second half of the game for the big win. All but two of the Wildcats scored in the game, but sophomore point guard Derrick Harris, Jr. led the scoring with 14 points and recorded his first dunk of the season. Senior John Dean Daniels added 13 for the Wildcats and Slater Stringer scored 10. Fletcher Sheffield pulled down 11 rebounds for the Wildcats. The Wildcats are now 3-9 on the season.
