ASHBURN — Worth County coach Jason Tone was thrilled with his team’s 39-36 victory at Turner County Friday night.

He never played a down, but Tone and his coaching staff must have felt like they played four quarters.

“I am wore slap out,” he said. “But I’m happy for the kids trusting each other and coming together like they did.”

The Rams scored two touchdowns in the final nine minutes of the fourth quarter on touchdown runs from Malik Dassie. Then with just a few seconds left on the clock, kicker Seth Souter drilled a 27-yard field goal to help the Rams even their season record at 1-1.

“These kids never gave up and they played their butts off,” Tone said. “We made a ton of mistakes but one thing these guys didn’t do was quit.”

After playing back-to-back road games to open the season, Worth County welcomes Veterans for its home opener next Friday night at Milt Miller Field.
