Lee County took a giant step toward winning the Region 1-AAAAAA title Friday night with a doubleheader sweep of Coffee. Lee won 2-1 and 11-1 to sweep the season series from Coffee.

The Trojans (18-9 overall, 8-1) maintained a two-game lead over Valdosta in the region standings. Lee County will close the regular season with a trio of games against Valdosta next week.

Josh Hatcher outdueled Coffee’s Max Hughes in the first game on Friday, hurling a complete-game victory. He went 2-for-4 at the plate and his double in the seventh scored the go-ahead run.

Layne Ward earned the victory in the 11-1 late game Friday night victory. He carried a no-hitter through five and two thirds innings.

Hatcher and Malik Spratling each went 3-for-4, while Garrett Suiter and Jonathan Logsdon each finished with two hits.

Lee will play at Valdosta on Tuesday night, then return next Friday night for a doubleheader against the Wildcats in the regular-season finale.
