LEESBURG – The Lee County Trojan baseball team improved its record to 4-1 on Friday night by sweeping a doubleheader over visiting Pike County, 8-2 and 5-2, in Leesburg.
The Trojans put four runs on the board in the bottom of third inning in game one to take a lead they never lost. With one out, Grayson Spears singled, Josh Barnes walked and Durrah Butler followed with a single to load the bases. Spears scored on a fielder’s choice hit by Carter Singletary, and Cole Lindsey followed with a double to left that knocked in three more runs.
Butler took the win on the mound. He pitched six innings, giving up four hits and one run. He did not walk any batters and struck out eight. Lindsey pitched the seventh to end the game for the Trojans.
In game two, the Trojans pushed two runs across the plate in the bottom of the second when Pike County left hander Alan Majors had trouble finding the strike zone. With one out, Majors walked Temirez Williams, Jackson Creech and Brent Smith. Majors did strike out the next batter, but he then walked Spears and Barnes to score two runs before the Pirates changed pitchers.
The Trojans added three more runs in the third on singles from Smith and Wilder Etheridge.
Connor Hall took the win on the mound for the Trojans. He pitched five innings, giving up six hits and one unearned run. He didn’t walk any batters and struck out six.
