Lee County beats Lowndes to stay unbeaten in region
Trojans take 7-1 victory over Vikings

LEESBURG — Lee County High School baseball coach Brandon Brock can’t quite figure out what it is about his team, but he will take the victories.
For the second game in a row, the Trojans went down before getting their offense going. Tuesday night, Lee came back from a one-run deficit to beat Lowndes 7-1 at home.
“I wish we would change it a little bit,” Brock said. “They are hanging in there. The last couple of years, we haven’t finished. At least we are finishing, I will say that much.”
The win gives Lee a 14-1 overall record and 5-0 record in Region 1-AAAAAA.
After racking up just one hit in the first three innings, the Trojans plated four runs in the fourth on four consecutive hits.
The offense continued to roll in the fifth when Lee scored three more runs with the big blow being a two-run double by Brenton Phillips.
Phillips was one of three Trojans that finished the game with two hits. He also scored two runs.
Kolby Phillips and Garrett Suiter also had two hits each.
Tyler Goff started for Lee and earned the victory in his second straight start. He also pitched last Tuesday and got a no-decision against Tift County.
Goff set down the first nine batters including striking out the side in the opening frame. He allowed just one hit in five innings.
The lefty struck out five batters through his five innings of work.
“I was feeling good,” Goff said. “In the fourth, it got a little shaky. I knew my teammates would come in and back me up. That is what they did. The game went great.”
The lone run for Lowndes came in the fourth when Jaharie Boone was hit by a pitch to get on base. Boone advanced to second on a dropped pickoff throw and scored on two consecutive wild pitches.
Andrew Wingate came in to pitch the final two innings and allowed just one hit.
