Lee County Lady Trojans win ninth straight

LEESBURG — Ten games into the season, Lee County has turned winning into a habit.

The Lady Trojans extended their winning streak to nine games Tuesday, getting an early home run from Brylyn Parsons and another strong performance in the circle from Tina Benton in a 4-1 victory over Veterans at Lee County High School.

Lee County improved to 9-1 overall and remained unbeaten in region play at 4-0.

Veterans struck first, but the lead didn’t last long.

Kalleigh Stokes singled home a run in the top of the first inning to put the Lady Warhawks ahead 1-0.

Parsons answered in the bottom half.

The Lee County shortstop launched a two-run homer to center field, quickly turning the one-run deficit into a 2-1 advantage.

The Lady Trojans added another run an inning later when Jaydynne Frisbee singled down the right-field line to make it 3-1.

That was already more than enough support for Benton.

The Lee County right-hander allowed five hits and one run in a complete-game performance. She struck out five, didn’t issue a walk and kept Veterans off the scoreboard over the final six innings.

Just as importantly, the defense behind her didn’t give the Lady Warhawks any help. Lee County played error-free softball, with first baseman Mac Davis recording eight putouts.

The combination allowed Benton to work efficiently and protect the lead as the Lady Trojans added one more run before putting away their ninth consecutive victory.

Parsons finished 2-for-3 and drove in two runs to lead Lee County’s six-hit attack. Makinley Duke drew two of the Lady Trojans’ five walks.

Veterans starter Caidence Scott went six innings, allowing four runs on six hits and five walks while striking out four.

Stokes, Mia Ward, Braylin Horton, Kendra Levi and Bella Fendley accounted for Veterans’ five hits.

Lee County hasn’t lost since dropping its season opener and now turns its attention to a pair of important region dates against Northside-Warner Robins.

The Lady Trojans travel to Veterans Thursday for a doubleheader, then head to Warner Robins on Tuesday before hosting Northside for a doubleheader next Thursday in Leesburg.
