THOMASVILLE — If high school football teams were graded on style points, Lee County would have collected plenty against Thomas County Central.

Playing against a team decimated by injuries, Lee County rolled to a 49-0 victory. And while the top-ranked team in GHSA Class 6A was expected to win easily, the manner in which the Trojans won pleased many on the Lee County side, including head coach Dean Fabrizio.

“We keep getting better every week,” Fabrizio said. “That’s what we preach to them, correct our mistakes, get better every week. We’ve been able to do that.”

Lee County played a nearly flawless first half, taking a 42-0 lead into halftime. The Trojans’ defense yielded zero first downs in the first 24 minutes, and the offense scored on all but one drive before the break.

Jase Orndorff threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as Lee County enters Region 1-6A play next week at Houston County with a 6-0 record.

It was just the third win all-time for Lee County against TCC in 24 meetings. It was the worst home loss in TCC program history, and it tied a 56-7 loss to Thomasville in 1969 as the second-worst loss for the Yellow Jackets overall, with Westside-Macon beating TCC 51-0 in 2008.

“I’ve got a lot of respect for (Bill) Shaver and the Thomas County Central program,” Fabrizio said. “They’re having one of those years where they’ve got a young team and they’ve just been snake-bit with all of the injuries.”

Lee County controlled things from the start. After Korey Waters caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Orndorff to cap the Trojans’ first drive, Tyrone Harris scooped up a fumble forced by Dashawn King on the ensuing kickoff and ran it in 20 yards to put Lee County up 14-0 less than four minutes into the contest.

When Thomas County Central finally mounted a drive, it did not last long. Andy Kirt recovered a fumble at the TCC 27 less than two minutes after the Harris score, and that set up a 5-yard scoring run by Shaun Kimbrough to make it 21-0.

“Things just rolled for us,” Harris said. “We just went out and executed. We did what we had to do.”

Josh Asbury caught two touchdown passes, a 1-yarder from Orndorff in the second quarter and a 20-yarder from Kyle Toole in the third.

Orndorff also threw a 30-yard scoring pass to Ty Terrell. His scoring run was an 18-yard scramble with 2:20 to go before halftime.
