Lee County takes two over the weekend

The Lee County Trojans (5-1) took two close wins on the diamond this weekend, beating Colquitt County 8-6 on Friday and Locust Grove 5-4 on Saturday.
The Trojans opened up with three runs in the first and in the second, then scored two more in the fourth to build an 8-0 lead over the Packers. Colquitt County responded with five runs in the fifth and tried to come back with another run in the sixth before the Trojans recorded the outs.
Spencer Hanson and Chase Somers had the big bats for the Trojans against the Packers. Hanson smacked three hits- including a double and a triple, knocking in a run for the Trojans. Somers blasted a double for two RBI.
Starting pitcher Matt Cooper pitched the first four innings and took the win. He allowed no hits and struck out five batters. He did allow four walks. Hill Corley, Flint Davis, Luke Powell, Seth Nelson, and CJ Bozeman all pitched in relief for the Trojans. Nelson recorded the save.
On Saturday, pitcher Logan Goff threw for six innings and batted in two runs to lead the Trojans over the Wildcats of Locust Grove. Locust Grove jumped on the Trojans early, scoring three runs in the first inning. Lee County responded with two in the fourth and three more in the fifth inning to come from behind and take the win.
Goff took the win on the mound for Trojans. He gave up three runs on seven hits and one walk. He struck out three batters. Seth Nelson recorded the save for the Trojans.
At the plate, the Trojans recorded six hits, including a double by Alex Newton. Spencer Hanson, Chase Somers, Matt Cooper, Seth Nelson, and Goff had the singles. Somers and Cooper batted in runs.
The Trojans will travel to Tifton Wednesday to face the Tift County Blue Devils (3-3). First pitch is set for 5:55 p.m.
