Lee County Trojans win 11th straight, rout Dodge Co. 13-1

LEESBURG – The Lee County Trojans (17-4) won their 11th straight game Wednesday, blowing away visiting Dodge County 13-1 in five innings. 

After a scoreless first inning, the Trojans scored six runs in the second inning off of Dodge County starter Holden Thomas. Lee County added four runs in the third and three runs in the fourth to lead 13-0 and were one hit away from ending the game in the fourth inning. but Dodge County third baseman Kain Mincey snagged a line drive from Nate Taczy to end the inning and leave the runners on. If that drive hadn’t gotten past Mincey, two runs would have scored and the 15-0 mercy rule would have ended the game.

Lee County Head Coach Wes Shiver changed his entire lineup after the third inning, giving younger Trojan players valuable game experience.

Grayson Spears took the win on the mound for the Lee County , pitching the first three innings. He allowed just one hit and struck out four. Cole French pitched the final two innings. He allowed three hits and one earned run. He walked one and struck out two.

Seth Franklin and Brent Smith had two hits each and Durrah Butler smacked a double for the only extra-base hit.

Lee County will travel to Jesup for a game against Wayne County Thursday afternoon and then host the Colquitt County Packers in Leesburg Friday afternoon at 5:30.

The Trojans will host top-ranked Houston County (18-4) Tuesday in Leesburg to begin a three-game series that will determine the region championship and the top-seed from the region heading into the state playoffs. The other two games of the series will be in Warner Robins next Friday.
