Lee County solidified its hold on the top spot of the Georgia Sports Writers Association Class 6A poll released Tuesday.

Following its 47-6 win Friday over Dougherty in the Hamp Smith Classic, Lee County claimed all 17 first-place votes cast in Class 6A.

If the rest of the Class 6A poll is any indication, Lee County will have some strong challenges once region play begins. Coffee, Northside-Warner Robins and Valdosta — all Region 1-6A teams — occupy the second, third and fourth spots in Class 6A polling.

A second team from the Albany area picked up some votes this week. Pelham, which knocked Macon County out of the Class 1A top 10 with a 41-0 victory Friday, is tied for 14th in Class 1A with Charlton County and Stratford after picking up four votes.

Leading their respective classifications are Grayson (Class 7A), Rome (Class 5A), Blessed Trinity (Class 4A), Calhoun (Class 3A), Hapeville Charter (Class 2A) and Eagle’s Landing Christian (Class 1A).
