A total of 10 Lee County wrestlers will head to the state wrestling tournament in Macon this weekend after qualifying at the state Class AAAAAA sectionals last weekend at Alexander High School in Douglasville.

Juan Alaniz will be the top seed at state in the 113-pound class, becoming the second Lee wrestler to win sectionals.

Meanwhile, James Monteiro became the school’s first heavyweight champion and the the third Trojan wrestler to win a sectional title. He will be the top seed after dominating.

The Trojans will be sending 10 of the 11 wrestlers they took to the sectionals to the state meet. The top eight wrestlers in each weight class qualified for the state tournament.

Ethan Dooley (120) finished seventh, Yoshi Pizarro (126) placed sixth, Kyle Grimsley (138) finished eighth, Matt Bruner (145) finished third, Dimitri Bonner (152) placed seventh, Mitchell Grantham (160) finished fifth, Sylvester Jackson (182) placed third and Aaron Lloyd (195) finished seventh.

Michael Reilly, wrestling in the 170 class, just missed a trip to the state tournament. He finished ninth.
