Lee County’s Jammie Robinson named GHSA Class 6A Defensive Player of Year

ALBANY — Lee County High School defensive back/athlete Jammie Robinson was named the Georgia High School Football Daily’s Class 6A Defensive Player of the Year, the publication announced Thursday afternoon.

Robinson was one of three members of Lee County’s back-to-back state championship squad to make the first team. Offensive lineman Griffin Carder and defensive lineman Anthony Harvey joined Robinson. Three more Lee County players — defensive back Tay Mayo, defensive lineman Deangelo Carter and quarterback Kyle Toole were named honorable mention.

Lee County’s three players named to the Class 6A team tied for the most of any team in the classification. Creekview and Northside-Warner Robins, two teams Lee County beat, also had three players on the first team.

A wealth of other Albany-area players were named to the all-state team in different classifications.

In Class 1A Public, Pelham head football coach Dondrial Pinkins was named the classification’s Coach of the Year after taking the Hornets to the state semifinals for just the second time in school history. Pelham finished 12-1, including an undefeated regular season.

Pelham wide receiver Jordan Bennett was named to the first team, while Mitchell County linebacker Malik Barnes also made the first team.

A wealth of area players made the honorable mention list.

Monroe quarterback David Dillard was named to the honorable mention team in Class 3A.

A trio of Pelham players were named to the Class 1A Public honorable mention team — quarterback Kendrick Patterson, running back/linebacker Javoris Williams and athlete Darrell Starling.

Mitchell County junior quarterback James Thomas also was an honorable mention selection.

Cedar Grove wide receiver Jadon Haselwood, who helped the Saints defeat Peach County for the GHSA Class 3A state championship, was named the All-Classification Player of the Year .
