LOCAL SPORTS BRIEFS: Women’s basketball showcase slated for Saturday

L&G Camp of Champs, Inc., will host the Southeast Junior College Women’s Basketball Jamboree on Saturday at Albany State’s West Campus arena.
Games will take place from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with 27 teams from across the Southeast competing, according to a release from the organizer. Competition will take place on four courts, with games starting on the hour.
Albany Tech, South Georgia Tech and Andrew College are among the participants.
Albany Tech faces Eastern Florida State at 10 a.m., Wallace State-Hanceville at noon and Snead State at 3 p.m.
South Georgia Tech takes on Pensacola State at 9 a.m., Bryant & Stratton at 11 a.m. and Meridian at 1 p.m.
Andrew takes on Northwest Florida State at 9 a.m., Hillsborough at 11 a.m. and Shelton State at 1 p.m.
More than 100 college scouts are scheduled to be in attendance. This is a continuation of an event run by the former Darton College women’s basketball program.
GSW men’s soccer outlasts Point
Dylan Marshall converted a Chris Avery pass for the game-winning goal in Georgia Southwestern’s 2-1 overtime victory Wednesday over Point.
Marshall took a pass from Avery inside the right post and punched it across to the far corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season.
GSW snapped a five-match losing streak to improve to 4-5-1 overall, matching the Hurricanes’ highest victory total as an NCAA program.
Divin Moke scored GSW’s first goal, a header off a pass from Daniel Mendsen served by a Shane Madray corner kick.
Joshua Swift finished with seven saves.
Golf tournament scheduled
The fall SaltySandbagger golf event between Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany and the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce will be played Oct. 18 at Doublegate Country Club.
Lunch will take place at 11:30 a.m., followed by a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.
