The reigning champion suffered a stunning 1-0 loss to Mexico in Moscow on Sunday, the first time Germany has lost its World Cup opener since 1982.

Hirving Lozano scored at the 35-minute mark to put an aggressive Mexico side ahead early in the Group F match.

Germany picked up the pace in the second half, but failed to notch an equalizer despite finishing with 26 total shots (nine on goal) and controlling possession for 67 percent of the game.

Serbia 1, Costa Rica 0

Aleksandar Kolarov lifted a free kick over the wall and just inside the post to give Serbia a 1-0 win over Costa Rica in Group E play in Samara, Russia.

Kolarov scored his goal in the 56th minute after Francisco Calvo was booked for a foul on Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Costa Rica brought on Arsenal forward Joel Campbell late in a series of moves to try to score an equalizer, but was unsuccessful.
