ALBANY — Monroe sophomore Marianna Wright had a busy afternoon Saturday at Hugh Mills Stadium as she competed in the annual Westover Relays.

She took second place in the girl’s 100-meter dash, won the girl’s 200-meter dash in a photo-finish with Westover’s Madison Mitchell, then won the 300-meter hurdles with a personal best time that broke the Georgia record in Class 3A and is the second fastest time in the nation this year. She had set the national record in the 400-meter hurdles last summer.

“God did it,” Wright said after Saturday’s meet. “It feels surreal.”

Wright said she is not doing anything differently but just continuing to work hard and staying focused.

She finished the 300-meter hurdle race with a time of 41.18 seconds, five seconds ahead of Lowndes’ Kaedreon Thomas who crossed the finish line with a time of 46.83.

Marianna is the daughter of Benjamin and Beverly Wright of Albany.
