ALBANY – Milesplit Georgia recognized two performances as “elite” performances from Saturday’s Alice Coachman Invitational at Monroe High School. Those two performances were Monroe’s Marianna Wright in the 300 meter hurdles and the Carver 800 meter relay team.

Wright, who set the state record in the 300 meter hurdles last year as a sophomore, finished her race Saturday with a time of 43.75 seconds – nine seconds ahead of her closest competitor, Jakayla Brown of Lowndes High School. Wright also helped Monroe take the top spot in the girl’s 800-meter relay, winning with a time of 1:44.54 – nine seconds in front of Carver.

The Carver boys set the record a year ago at Alice Coachman and made it faster in 2024. Carver finished with a time of 1:28.95 with Houston County in second and Monroe in third. All three of those teams beat the record from a year ago.

The boy’s fastest runners of the day included Kaylan Hicks of Lowndes who won the boy’s 100-meter dash with a time of 11:04 seconds – one hundredth of a second in front of Dougherty’s Austin Davis. Austin Stinson, a freshman from Houston County took the top spot in the 200 meter dash. No local runners finished in the top five of the 200 meter but freshman Jalen Clayton of Colquitt County finished sixth and Westover freshman Jayvion Fowler took seventh.

Kadreion Thomas of Lowndes won the title of fastest female on the track, winning the 100-meter dash with a time 12:40. Lee County’s Sarah Head took second, Lee County’s Jade Cintron finished third and Westover’s Madison Mitchell took fourth.

Head won the girl’s 200-meter dash, just ahead of Houston County’s Adriana Haynes. Cintron took third and Mitchell finished fourth in that race.

Monroe’s Usir Bey and Benjamin Wright finished 1-2 in the boy’s 400 meter dash with Lee County’s Christian Bothwell in fourth. Monroe’s Jurdyn Johnson won the girl’s 400 meter dash, ahead of Lee County’s Jamia Sims in second and Monroe freshman Jadiah Lewis in third.
