CAMILLA — For the second week in a row, Mitchell County pitched a shutout.

A week after opening the season with a 24-0 victory over Albany, the Eagles followed it up 46-0 victory over Stewart County on Friday night in their Region 1-A opener.

“We played good,” Mitchell coach Larry Cornelius said. “It was nice to get another shutout. We had a good showing on offense. Couple turnovers early which we will need to correct, but Stewart County is a much-improved team.”

Kobe Butler registered two rushing touchdowns for Mitchell while quarterback Ken’Trevious Williams threw for one and ran for one.

For the second week in a row, Malik Barnes had a defensive touchdown. The linebacker returned a fumble recovery for a score. Last week, he had an interception returned for a touchdown.

James Thomas also added a touchdown for the Eagles on a punt return.

Mitchell County (2-0, 1-0) will travel to Colquitt next week to play Miller County.
