MLB roundup: Gimenez’s two homers pace Twins’ win

MINNEAPOLIS — Chris Gimenez hit two home runs for his first career multi-homer game, and Jose Berrios continued his strong sophomore season for the Minnesota Twins with a career-high eight innings pitched in Thursday’s 6-2 win against the Seattle Mariners.

Gimenez drove in four runs, while Eduardo Escobar had three hits, including a homer, as Minnesota split the four-game series and remained two games ahead of Cleveland in the American League Central before the two teams start a four-game weekend series on Friday.

Escobar has hit .581 (18-for-31) with three homers and eight RBIs in his last eight games.

Berrios (6-1) won his third straight decision, giving up two runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out six. He has gone at least five innings in each of his seven starts this season and has allowed more than three runs just ones.

Seattle starter Ariel Miranda (6-3) yielded six runs on a career-high 10 hits in four innings. The Mariners had won 12 of their previous 17 games, including four of six against the Twins.

White Sox 5, Orioles 2

CHICAGO — Matt Davidson homered in his fourth straight game while Melky Cabrera went 2-for-5 with two RBIs as Chicago beat the Baltimore in the series finales.

The White Sox took three of four in the series while the Orioles slipped back below the .500 mark with their seventh loss in eight games.

Baltimore starter Chris Tillman (1-5) suffered his fifth straight loss, while Chicago reliever Anthony Swarzak (3-1) worked 1 2/3 innings for the victory.

Indians 12, Dodgers 5

CLEVELAND — Lonnie Chisenhall had a home run and five RBIs, and Jose Ramirez had three hits and drove in a pair as the Cleveland pounded Los Angeles.

Edwin Encarnacion and Erik Gonzalez also went deep for Cleveland, with Gonzalez’s blast serving as his first career homer. Encarnacion, who reached base five times, on three hits, a walk and a hit-by-pitch, scored a career-high-tying four runs.

Cody Bellinger and Chris Taylor homered for the Dodgers, who saw their six-game winning streak halted.
