ALBANY — Monroe got revenge on Westover on Tuesday — and it was the coldest, cruelest form one rival could ever inflict on another.

The Herald No. 4-ranked Lady Tornadoes not only handed the No. 1 Lady Patriots (23-1) their first loss of the season, but prevented Westover from achieving something they’d set out to accomplish since their 2011-12 opener in November: the first unbeaten campaign in school history.

Instead, Monroe raced out to a lead and never looked back en route to a 51-48 win, avenging an early season 54-40 loss back on Jan. 13.

The Lady Tornadoes did it by shutting down Westover leading scorer DyTiesha Dunson, who they double-teamed all game.

Dunson got Westover to within three points with less than 10 seconds play, but Monroe held on.
