Monroe’s girls track and field team will have plenty of chances to earn points at the GHSA Class 3A track and field meet in a couple of weeks.

The Tornadoes qualified entrants in 13 events for the Class 3A meet, scheduled for May 10-12 at Hugh Mills Stadium. They finished second at last year’s state meet, five points behind Greater Atlanta Christian.

With the exception of the two Class 1A subclasses, eight athletes from each event qualify from each sectional for state competition. There are two sectionals in each class.

Jaeda Hunt claimed three individual first-place finishes in sectional competition Saturday at Bremen. She claimed the 100 in 12.15 seconds, the 200 in 25.36 and the long jump with an attempt of 18 feet, 2.5 inches.

Isis Mcvay also finished first in three events. She prevailed in the 100 hurdles in 15.02 seconds, the 300 hurdles in 44.79 and the triple jump with a 38-11 attempt.

J’Milya Poole was first in the 400 in 56.35 seconds and second in the 300 hurdles. Mikendy Edwards finished second in the 100 and 200 and took third in the long jump, qualifying for the state meet in all three events.

Monroe qualified two teams in each relay, with the Tornadoes winning both the 4×100 and 4×400 relays. The second 4×100 relay team finished third, while the second 4×400 relay team took fifth.

Additional state meet qualifiers from Monroe include Camielle Milledge in the 400, 800 and high jump, Naila Harris in the 800, Cheryl Thomas in the 100 hurdles, Tieria Malone in the triple jump, Annie Cooper in the shot put and Jahanna Jones in the shot put and discus.

Dougherty’s girls had two individuals qualify, as well as its 4×100 relay team. Jakaela Dungee qualified in the 100 and the high jump, while Armonnie Bryant posted a qualifying finish in the discus.

Worth County’s Chavis Marshall advances to Class 3A boys state meet competition in three individual events. He will go in the 200, the long jump and the triple jump.

The Rams will also send Quantavious Dassie in the 100, as well as their 4×100 relay team.

Several Dougherty athletes will head to the state meet in boys competition. Caleb Vance qualified in the shot put and discus, Ben Thompson and Antonio Knighton in the 800, Rashawn Douglas in the 110 hurdles, Keyshawn Jackson in the high jump, Rodney Walker and Ja’Shawn Wright in the pole vault and Gemarcus Freeman in the shot put. Also, the Dougherty 4×400 relay team posted a qualifying finish.

In Class 6A sectional competition in Grovetown, Lee County had three athletes qualify for the state meet: Tye Smith in the boys pole vault, Ar’Tavius Warren in the boys long jump and Rachel Kiesau in the girls 300 hurdles.

Results from the Class 4A sectional in Columbus and the Class 1A-Public sectional in Tifton were not posted to the MileSplit website as of Sunday afternoon.
