The Texas Longhorns clinched their record 36th College World Series berth on Monday after topping Tennessee Tech 5-2 in Austin, Texas, to win the Super Regional series 2-1.

Kody Clemens, son of seven-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens, hit his third home run of the series and fifth of the postseason, a solo homer in the third inning. It proved to be the winning run for the Longhorns (42-21), who got a solo shot from DJ Petrinsky two batters later to take a 4-0 lead after three.

The Golden Eagles (53-12) scored one run in the fourth and another in the sixth, with Texas also tallying in the sixth to make it 5-2.

In the ninth inning, Tennessee Tech brought the tying run to the plate by loading the bases with two outs, but Texas right-hander Nolan Kingham — who was taken by the Atlanta Braves in the 12th round of the 2018 MLB Amateur Draft last week — coaxed a groundout from Brennon Kaleiwahea to preserve the victory.

It’s the Longhorns’ first appearance in the College World Series since 2014. They last won it all in 2005, coming closest since then with a runner-up finish in 2009.
