LEESBURG – On the coldest night of the season, the No. 2-ranked Lee County Trojans (13-0) brought the heat, scoring touchdowns on all seven first-half possessions to dismantle Sprayberry 64-0 in Friday night’s state quarterfinal at Trojan Field.

The dominant win sends Lee County to the Class 5A semifinals, where they’ll face top-ranked Milton on Friday in Alpharetta. Sprayberry’s loss ends a stellar season for the Yellow Jackets, who finish 11-2. The 11 wins are a school record for the Yellow Jackets, and it is the first time since 1982 Sprayberry has advanced to the state quarterfinals in football.

Lee County’s offense racked up 474 yards, led by quarterback Weston Bryan, who added five touchdowns to his school record, now at 59. Bryan threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more, completing 8 of 12 passes for 160 yards and rushing 13 times for 109 yards.

“I am really proud of the way our kids came out and played tonight — great performance in all three phases of the game,” Lee County head coach Dean Fabrizio said. “Sprayberry was 11-1 and had a really good football team. For us to come out and do what we did tonight is very impressive. Next week is the game everyone has been talking about. It will be No. 1 vs. No. 2 in the state, two teams ranked in the top 25 nationally. Should be the biggest game in the state and possibly the entire country.”

The Trojans set the tone early. Running back Ousmane Kromah broke loose for 27 yards on the first play from scrimmage, and two plays later, Bryan punched in the first touchdown. After a defensive stop, Bryan led another quick drive, capping it with a two-yard scoring run to make it 16-0.

Lee County’s defense dominated as well, pressuring Sprayberry quarterback Jaden Duckett and forcing key turnovers. Defensive end Martin Atkins recovered a fumble to set up a touchdown, and freshmen defensive backs Trey Bush and Trey Clay intercepted Duckett to spark other scoring drives.

Bryan connected with Jaden Upshaw for two touchdowns, including a 16-yarder on fourth down. Canton Williams added a three-yard touchdown run, and Kromah closed the first half with two more scores — a 26-yard run and a 50-yard reception.

With a running clock in the second half, Lee County’s younger players took over. Jordan Bush scored on a 23-yard run, and Carter Blackwell turned a short pass from Joshua Cabatit into an 80-yard touchdown, sealing the win.

The Trojans head to Alpharetta next week for a highly anticipated showdown against top-ranked Milton.
