No.5 Georgia Softball falls to Cal, 7-2

PALO ALTO, Calif. – No. 5/3 Georgia softball fell to No. 20/24 Cal, 7-2, on day two of the DeMarini Invitational Saturday. Georgia’s second game of the day against No. 11/10 Stanford was rained out.

Georgia is now 15-2 on the season. The Dogs will play Stanford on Sunday at 3 p.m., ET, in an already scheduled game. Saturday’s game will not be made up.

No. 20/24 Cal 7, No. 5/3 Georgia 2

Jaiden Fields highlighted the offense for the Dawgs, picking up two hits, including a two-run home run and a double.

Madison Kerpics (5-1) pitched two innings in her start, suffering her first loss. She allowed three runs on two hits. Shelby Walters worked three innings out of the pen. Rachel Gibson and Riley Orcutt combined to pitch the sixth inning, each picking up a strikeout.

Sara Mosley reached on a one-out single, then Fields stepped in and launched a two-run home run to centerfield, putting Georgia ahead 2-0 in the second.

Cal (17-2) used a lot of small ball to push across three runs in the bottom of the inning and go ahead 3-2.

The Bears added another run on a leadoff homer in the fourth, 4-2. Cal tacked on two more in the fifth on a double, widening the lead to 6-2, in the fifth. An RBI single brought the Cal lead to 7-2 in the sixth.
