The Carolina Panthers have re-signed kicker and pending free agent Graham Gano to a four-year contract, the team announced Tuesday.

The Panthers planned to place the franchise tag on Gano if a long-term agreement couldn’t be reached before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline.

According to multiple reports, the deal is worth $17 million with $9 million guaranteed, putting Gano in the top three at his position for annual salary and guaranteed money next to Stephen Gostkowski and Justin Tucker.

Gano, who turns 31 in April, made his first Pro Bowl appearance in 2017 after making 29 of 30 field goals during the regular season, posting the best percentage (96.7) of any kicker with at least five attempts.

The career campaign came after Gano won a training-camp battle with rookie seventh-round pick Harrison Butker, who was placed on the practice squad before being claimed by the Chiefs and having a strong season of his own (38-of-42, 90.5).

Through nine NFL seasons, including six with Carolina, Gano has gone 210-for-257 (81.7) on field goals and 276-of-288 (95.8) on extra points.
