Lady Hornets win 15th game of season

PELHAM — On a night in which the Pelham Lady Hornets honored Herald Super 6er Destiny Thomas who eclipsed the 1,000-point scoring plateau last week, Thomas teamed with Aaliyah Williams to help the Lady Hornets drill Thomasville 62-30 in a nonregion game Tuesday night at Pelham.
Williams finished with a game-high 18 points, while Thomas chipped in 14 as Pelham improved to 15-1 on the season.
It was the third straight victory after Pelham dropped its first game of the season last week against Lowndes.
The Lady Hornets will play host to defending Class A public school state runner-up Terrell County Friday night at 6 p.m.
Terrell Academy girls 42, Southwest Georgia 31
Hannah Harrell sparked Terrell Academy with 16 points, while Javen Wimberly added 14 as Terrell Academy rolled to a Georgia Independent Schools Association Region 3-AA victory.
The Lady Eagles improved to 8-7 overall and 4-2 in region play with the victory. They will play at Crisp Academy Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
Deerfield-Windsor girls 47, Southland 45
Deerfield-Windsor used a strong fourth quarter to edge past Southland in a key GISA Region 3-AAA game. The Lady Knights outscored Southland 17-12 in the final quarter to capture the region victory.
Lila Lanier led Deerfield-Windsor with 13 points, while Jamia Lofton added 12. Hannah Mills finished with nine.
Savannah Banks led Southland with 14.
Deerfield-Windsor will visit Tiftarea in another Region 3-AAA contest Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
Westwood girls 82, Highland Christian 16
The Westwood Lady Wildcats improved to 17-1 on the season by routing Highland Christian. It was Westwood’s 17th straight victory.
Gracie Pollock finished with a game-high 19 points to lead the way. Abby Santos finished with 14 points, Elizabeth Glass added 11, while Karlie Jones and McKenlee Coleman scored 10 points apiece.
The Lady Wildcats will play at Southwest Georgia Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
Sherwood Christian boys 69, Calvary Christian 62
Sammy Smith finished with game-high 26 points to help Sherwood Christian beat Calvary Christian. Stantravious Smith finished with a double-double (22 points, 15 rebounds), while Bailey Benham finished with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Southland boys 52, Deerfield-Windsor 43
Alex Roach finished with a game-high 24 points to lead Southland to a victory over Deerfield-Windsor in a key GISA Region 3-AAA game.
Ethan Merritt led the Knights with 17 points, while Daniel Ramsey added 11.
After the Knights led 22-17 at halftime, Southland took control by outscoring DWS 22-12 in the third quarter.
Terrell Academy boys 68, Southwest Georgia 34
Terrell Academy maintained its share of the GISA Region 3-AA lead with a victory over Southwest Georgia. Reese Bell led the Eagles with 16 points, while Jalin Wimberly finished with 11 points. Jared Donalson and Garrett Sloan finished with 10 points apiece.
Highland Christian boys 65, Westwood 62
Jonte Harris finished with 32 points in a losing cause as Highland Christian defeated Westwood in a key GISA Region 3-AA game. Derrick Harris, Jr. and John Dean Daniels added nine points each.
Thomasville boys 63, Pelham 55
Dewaun Jones led Pelham with 16 points, while Ke’Monterius Byrd added 12 in a losing cause as Thomasville defeated Pelham in a nonregion game.
The Hornets fell to 6-8 with the loss.
Westover boys 67, Cairo 62
Kris Gardner helped the Patriots earn a key Region 1-AAAA victory over Cairo. The Herald Super 6er finished with 28 points, four assists and two steals. Montravious Richardson finished with a double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds).
