Eagles build 49-point lead at half and coast to 49-8 victory

DAWSON — Terrell Academy took a step out of GISA Region 3-AAA play on Friday and routed Georgia Christian 49-8. The Eagles built a 49-0 lead at halftime and coasted to an easy victory to improve to 5-2 on the season.

The defense set the tone in the game, intercepting three passes and recovering a fumble. Max Reaves had one of the interceptions and returned it 10 yards for a score.

Freshman kicker Jenna Cuff was busy in the game, converting all seven of her extra point attempts.

William Chambless had a 4-yard touchdown run, Cameron Clements added a pair of touchdowns on runs of 2 and 25 yards, Mathews Ivey tossed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Bishop Waters, Reese Bell added a 2-yard touchdown dash and Logan Barfield scored the final touchdown of the night on a 15-yard run.

Baconton Charter 47, Stewart County 12

In Lumpkin, Baconton Charter won its second game of the season, blowing out Stewart County in a nonregion contest.

The Blazers (2-4) were led by Matthew Deen, who finished with 193 yards rushing on 19 carries, scored two touchdowns and added two 2-point conversion runs.

Narocis Lewis finished with 96 yards rushing on 19 carries and scored four touchdowns.

Defensively, the Blazers were led by Tristan Goodman and Jonathan Beck. Goodman finished with six tackles, including three for loss, while Beck added five tackles and an interception.

The Blazers will jump back into region play next week when they play host to Mitchell County next Friday night at Centennial Stadium.

Westwood 14, Tiftarea 6

The Wildcats (4-3) jumped out to a 14-0 lead early in the game and that was all they needed. Tiftarea added a touchdown before halftime making the score 14-6.

Reid Ford scored a 5-yard touchdown for Westwood while Kevin Hall took one in from 50 yards.

Westwood coach Ross Worsham said the Wildcats game plan was hampered by the wet weather.

Westwood moves to 2-1 in the GISA Region 3-AAA play. They will play host Valwood next week.

Thomas Jefferson 52, Sherwood Christian 10

Chaznic Griffin scored on a 65-yard touchdown run and Dylan Evans kicked a 35-yard field goal for the Eagles’ only points of the night.

Sherwood (0-6) travels to Macon to face Covenant Academy next week.

Worth County 49, Dougherty 0

The Rams pitched their second shutout of the season in a rout of Dougherty.

Eric Burrows ran the opening kickoff back for a touchdown and returned an interception down to the one-yard line setting up a touchdown.

Worth also had a punt returned for a touchdown. They finished the game with more than 300 yards of offense.

The Rams (3-2, 1-0) travel to Bainbridge next week to face the Bearcats in a key Region 1-AAAA ‘B’ subregion game.

Dougherty (3-2, 0-1) is off next week before they host Bainbridge on Oct. 16th.

Crisp County 34, Albany 0

The constant rain caused problems all night for Albany. The Indians lost 11 fumbles to Crisp County.

Albany (0-6, 0-1 Region 1-AAAA ‘A’) will play host to Thomas County Central next week.
