PREP FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Worth County beats Crisp County again

CORDELE — Worth County coach Jason Tone wasn’t thrilled with his team’s performance in a 27-12 victory at Crisp County Friday night which earned the Rams a second straight trip to the state playoffs.

But the third-year coach had to smile — at least for a moment.

Quarterback Gerome Williams scored on a touchdown run and threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Horace Everson, then Chris McDaniel added a 75-yard touchdown run and Toddrick Jackson returned a kickoff for a score. The Rams (7-3) will travel to Locust Grove next Friday in the first round of the Class AAAA state football playoffs.

“I was proud of the kids … they fought hard,” Tone said. “We had a lot of adversity, but our kids pulled together, fought hard to win and did a great job.”

It was the second time that Worth County defeated rival Crisp County. The Rams won 44-0 in the fourth week of the season.

Randolph-Clay 28, Mitchell County 20

Randolph-Clay built a 20-8 halftime lead and held on to beat Mitchell County in Cuthbert. The Red Devils (7-3, 4-1) captured the Region 1-A title with the victory coupled with Terrell County’s victory over Miller County. The loss ended Mitchell County’s season at 4-6.

Randolph-Clay also secured an automatic trip to the Georgia High School Association Class A public school playoffs with the victory. The first round for Class A begins on Nov. 20.

The Red Devils held the ball for 10:50 in the final quarter to hold on.

“I’m proud of our kids,” Mitchell County coach Larry Cornelius said. “Randolph-Clay did a great job. They came out storming to start the game and we couldn’t stop them defensively. We made a nice comeback but could finish.”

Community Christian 56, Sherwood Christian 0

Sherwood Christian lost to Community Christian in its regular-season season finale. The Eagles finish the season at 0-10.
