Staff reports
AMERICUS — Worth County used a big second half to beat Americus-Sumter and finished with a 3-1 Region 1-AAAA ‘B’ subregion record. The Rams finished the game with more than 400 rushing yards.
Dontavius Buford paced the offense with 212 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
“It was a good win,” Worth coach Jason Tone said. “We’ve still got a lot of mistakes to correct but I thought that the kids played hard all game.”
With the win, the Rams secured a spot in the region playoffs that will be played on Nov. 7. Worth finishes the regular season against Thomas County Central next Friday in a nonregion game.
FITZGERALD 35, PELHAM 14: The Hornets fell behind 7-0 on a pick-six early in the game and could never regain the momentum. Fitzgerald went up 21-0 in the second quarter before eventually putting up 35 points.
The loss makes Pelham 1-3 in Region 1-AA play and seriously damaged its postseason hopes. The Hornets finish the season with games against Seminole County and Berrien.
“A couple plays in the first half and we got the momentum going,” Pelham coach Dondrial Pinkins said. “I’m ready to see it on film because I think a couple of calls that didn’t go our way changed the momentum of the game. It’s just tough when you don’t get a couple breaks that need to go your way.”
Pinkins said they will learn from the game and try to finish the season strong.
RANDOLPH-CLAY 38, BACONTON CHARTER 0: Baconton Charter lost on the road at Randolph-Clay and fell to 2-7 overall, 0-4 in Region 1-A play.

The Blazers are open next week and will play host to Calhoun County on Nov. 7.
