Baconton Charter sweeps Glascock County to advance

BACONTON — The top-ranked Baconton Charter Blazers (29-1) extended their winning streak to 20 games after sweeping Glascock County in a doubleheader by identical scores of 12-0. The Blazers now await the winner of Irwin County and Towns County in the next round of the state playoffs.

In game one, Baconton took advantage of a Glascock County error to score two runs in the first inning, then added another in the second on a sacrifice fly from Daniel Cruz.

The Panthers changed pitchers after two innings, and the move backfired quickly. In the third inning, with one out, Kayden Logue and Lee Worsham singled. Brett Brown then laid down a bunt toward third base, but confusion among Glascock defenders allowed the ball to roll untouched past the pitcher between third and short, loading the bases.

Corbin Suggs followed with a slow roller to third, which was mishandled, allowing a run to score and keeping the bases loaded. A defensive shuffle moved the second baseman to third, but Colton Suggs was then hit by a pitch, earning an RBI. Moments later, a wild pitch brought in Brown.

Glascock made another pitching change, but Baconton continued to pour it on. The next two batters walked, and Grayson White was hit by a pitch, making it 8-0. Hudson Coronati hit a grounder to the third baseman—now playing second—which was misplayed, scoring two more. Logue capped the inning with a double to left, pushing the lead to 11-0.

Coronati earned the win on the mound, pitching all five innings. He allowed just two hits, walked none, and struck out eight. He also led the team at the plate with three RBIs.

In game two, Baconton wasted no time, scoring seven runs in the first inning as 11 batters came to the plate. Cruz, Worsham, and Corbin Suggs each singled, while White doubled and Coronati tripled.

Coronati tripled again in the second inning as the Blazers tacked on three more runs.

Worsham earned the win on the mound in the second game. He pitched five innings, allowing three hits while walking two and striking out six.
