DAMASCUS — Sherwood Christian Academy ran into trouble early Tuesday and never recovered in a 13-2 loss to Southwest Georgia Academy — the Eagles’ sixth straight defeat.

The Warriors put the game out of reach almost immediately, scoring six runs in the first inning and adding five more in the second to build an 11-0 lead before the Eagles could settle in.

Southwest Georgia Academy needed just one hit in the second inning to plate five runs, taking advantage of defensive miscues and free passes to keep the pressure on.

Sherwood struggled to slow the momentum from the start.

Starter Braiden Parrish was tagged for five runs in just one-third of an inning, and although the Eagles settled in somewhat behind reliever John Seward, the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

Seward pitched 4 1/3 innings in relief, allowing seven runs — none earned — as Sherwood battled through defensive errors behind him.

Offensively, the Eagles were limited to three hits.

Parrish, Michael Merritt and Seward each recorded a hit, with Parrish also driving in a run. Sherwood managed to turn a double play defensively but couldn’t string together enough offense to threaten.

Southwest Georgia Academy was led by Luke Akers, who drove in five runs from the bottom of the lineup, while also taking advantage of aggressive baserunning. The Warriors drew six walks and stole nine bases, consistently putting runners in scoring position.

Sherwood Christian will look to bounce back quickly when it travels to Brookwood on Thursday.
