Radium Springs boys, Merry Acres girls split wins in middle school hoops

ALBANY – Merry Acres and Radium Springs split middle school basketball games Thursday at Merry Acres, with the Radium Springs boys pulling away for a 51-36 victory after the Lady Braves dominated the girls’ game with a commanding 35-3 win.
Boys’ Game: Radium Springs 51, Merry Acres 36
The Radium Springs Panthers set the tone early in the boys’ game, jumping out to a 13-2 lead by the end of the first quarter. However, the Braves clawed their way back, and a three-pointer from King Leverette brought Merry Acres within striking distance at 20-16 by halftime.
The Braves tied the game 20-20 early in the second half, but Radium Springs’ Jor’Dyn Halsey quickly broke the tie with a clutch three-pointer from the corner. The game stayed competitive until midway through the fourth quarter, when the Panthers unleashed a 12-0 run. The surge was fueled by Rodriquez Martin’s hustle on the boards, with two putbacks sparking the run. Robert Adams and Jherel Gibson added to the lead, sealing the victory for Radium Springs.
Gibson led the Panthers with 14 points, while Adams contributed 13, and Martin added eight. Leverette paced the Braves with 10 points, and Curtis Ware chipped in eight.
Girls’ Game: Merry Acres 35, Radium Springs 3
The Lady Braves dominated the girls’ game from the start, using relentless defensive pressure to force turnovers and create easy scoring opportunities. Guards Amarise Idlett and Janiyah Brown anchored the defense, pressing Radium Springs at half-court and disrupting their offensive flow. By the end of the first quarter, the Lady Braves held a commanding 15-0 lead and extended it to 25-0 before Radium Springs finally got on the board.
Idlett led the Lady Braves with 12 points, while Kennidi Feagan added nine, and Ty’Kera Harris scored eight. Radium Springs’ Lena Harris accounted for all three of her team’s points, sinking a pair of free throws in the second quarter.
