Region 1-A finals set at ASU West – Terrell County girls, Mitchell County boys advance
The final region games begin at 4 p.m. Friday at ASU West.
ALBANY — The stage is set for a Region championship double feature Friday night at Albany State West Arena, where two familiar rivals will settle unfinished business on the girls’ side while Mitchell County’s boys surge into a title matchup of their own.
The headline act will come at 7 p.m., when the No. 6-ranked Terrell County Greenwave meet the No. 3-ranked Pelham Lady Hornets for the Region championship — a rubber match in every sense.
The teams have split two meetings this season, each protecting its home floor, and Friday night will decide the only result that truly matters.
Pelham advanced to the final with a businesslike 53–33 win over Randolph-Clay, while Terrell County earned its spot by knocking off Mitchell County 45–35 in the semifinals.
The Lady Greenwave (21–4) did their damage early. Jada Rushing scored 14 points in the first half as Terrell County jumped out to a commanding 29–13 halftime lead, then leaned on its defense to close the door. Rushing finished with 19 points, Chassidy Franklin added 10, and Ceailaja Samuel chipped in eight.
Mitchell County was led by Adrianna Burke’s 12 points, with Tytionna Draggs and Javiah Martin scoring seven apiece, but never fully recovered from Terrell County’s fast start.
Friday’s matchup with Pelham promises a different kind of test. The Lady Hornets have been one of the state’s most consistent teams all season, and the familiarity between the programs all but guarantees a tight, physical championship game.
Eagles surge into boys’ title game
While Mitchell County’s girls fell in the semifinals, the boys from Camilla made sure the night didn’t end quietly.
The Mitchell County Eagles advanced to the boys’ Region championship with a 54–42 win over Early County Bobcats, setting up a title clash with No. 1-ranked Seminole County.
The game turned sharply after halftime.
Tied 24–24 at the break, Mitchell County opened the second half with a 16–0 run, flipping a tense, back-and-forth contest into a double-digit advantage in a matter of minutes.
The first half was a tug-of-war. Early County built a brief edge behind timely shooting, but Antwan Edmonds kept Mitchell close, drilling a 3-pointer late in the second quarter to force the halftime tie. Johnathan Isom and Jarvis Williams followed with baskets and free throws early in the third quarter as the Eagles seized control.

By the time Early County managed to stop the run, the damage was done. Mitchell County’s defense tightened, the pace slowed, and the Bobcats were left chasing the game the rest of the way.
Mitchell County will now face top-ranked Seminole County in the boys’ championship, 73-44 winners over Randolph-Clay in Thursday night action.
