Tom Crean is finalizing an agreement to coach the University of Georgia men’s basketball team, ESPN reported Thursday.

Two other reports said the former Indiana and Marquette coach was offered the job during a meeting earlier in the day.

Crean, 51, has been looking to get back into coaching after sitting out the 2017-18 season and working as an analyst for ESPN. He reportedly was also under consideration at Pitt.

Crean was fired by Indiana after an 18-16 record in 2016-17. He was 166-135 with four NCAA Tournament appearances in nine seasons with the Hoosiers. Prior to that, he was 190-96 in nine seasons with five NCAA appearances at Marquette.

After a 26-66 start at Indiana as the Hoosiers worked through NCAA sanctions for recruiting violations under Kelvin Sampson, the program made the NCAA Tournament four of the next six seasons and played in the Sweet 16 three times.

The Georgia job came open this month when the school cut ties with Mark Fox, who coached the Bulldogs to an 18-15 mark in his ninth season.
