Report: Georgia prized-recruit RB White tears ACL

Georgia freshman running back Zamir White, a prized recruit in the Bulldogs’ top-ranked 2018 class, suffered a torn ACL in his left knee and will likely need season-ending surgery, the Athens Banner-Herald reported on Saturday according to a UGA source.

White, one of the top-ranked running back recruits in the 2018 class, sustained the non-contact injury while working on a punt coverage team in an intrasquad scrimmage at Sanford Stadium on Saturday, coach Kirby Smart told reporters.

“I’m sick for the kid,” said Smart, who added White will have an MRI exam on the knee.

With the Bulldogs’ top running backs from last season — Nick Chubb and Sony Michael — now in the NFL, the 6-foot, 215-pound White was expected to compete for playing time. Returning running backs include sophomore D’Andre Swift, juniors Elijah Holyfield and Brian Herrien, while freshman James Cook will also get a chance to compete for some carries.

White, from Laurinburg, N.C., tore the ACL in his right knee late in his senior season of high school, limiting him in Georgia’s spring practices.

White rushed for 2,086 yards with 34 touchdowns during his senior year of high school.
