Southern Miss is scheduled to interview former Baylor head coach Art Briles, the Biloxi Sun-Herald reported Monday.

Briles, 63, was fired by Baylor in May 2016 amid widespread allegations of sexual misconduct and violence against women who accused Baylor football players as perpetrators.

Sports Illustrated reported a total of 31 players under Briles were accused of 52 alleged sexual assault incidents.

The university commissioned a third-party law firm to investigate the school’s handling of misconduct within the athletic department, which found that Baylor football coaches failed to report complaints against players.

A separate NCAA investigation into the conduct of the Baylor athletic department is not yet complete.

Baylor settled five Title IX lawsuits over allegations from former students.

Briles was 65-37 at Baylor and previously served as head coach at Houston.

Southern Miss has a vacant offensive coordinator post that was created when Shannon Dawson joined Dana Holgorsen’s staff at Houston.
