The Detroit Pistons and general manager Jeff Bower have parted ways, according to multiple reports Friday.
Bower came to the Pistons after serving as head coach at Marist College in New York. He spent four years in the Pistons’ front office alongside president of basketball operations and head coach Stan Van Gundy, who was fired last month.
Bower also spent more than 14 seasons with the New Orleans Hornets in a variety of roles, including scouting, coaching and as general manager. He and the franchise agreed to part ways in 2010, when he was the GM.
With Bower at the helm, the Pistons traded for Reggie Jackson and Blake Griffin and landed Stanley Johnson (2015) and Luke Kennard (2017) in the draft.
The Detroit Free Press lists several people as known candidates to replace Bower in the Pistons’ front office: Memphis Grizzlies executive and former Pistons forward Tayshaun Prince, TV analyst Brent Barry, Brooklyn Nets assistant general manager Trajan Langdon and Atlanta Hawks front office executive Malik Rose.
The news came a day after reports that Michigan coach John Beilein interviewed for the Pistons’ head coaching job.
Leading the search for a new head coach and a new GM is himself a newcomer, Ed Stefanski, who was brought on board last week as senior adviser to owner Tom Gores.
Also, a source told the Free Press that assistant GM Pat Garrity is a strong candidate to remain in the front office.
