An athlete with local ties is getting ready to represent the United States as an inline speed skater. Sabien Tinson started his career in 2012 at the Stardust Skating Rink in Albany with a team known as GT Speed Inline Speed Skating Team.
Tinson currently resides in Tampa, Fla. and is a member of Stardust Inline Speed Skating Team under the leadership of coaches Sammy Johnson, Eric Licata and coach Scot Tinson, his father. Tinson is one of the captains of the team.
Tinson set three separate goals for himself when his career started. His short-term goal was to become a national champion, in which he has already achieved that goal three times.
Tinson’s long-term goal is to become a world champion and also hopes to become an USA Olympic Gold Medalist in either short track or long track speed skating.
This past June, Tinson and his family traveled to Colorado Springs to take part in the 2016 USA Junior World Team Trials. Tinson made the team as a second sprinter and will be the youngest male member. He and his family will leave at the end of August to meet up with the rest of his USA Teammates in Nanjing, China for the 2016 FIRS Inline Speed Skating World Championships, which begin on Sept. 10.
After competing in China, Tinson plans to relocate to Utah and transition to ice to begin working towards his Olympic Dream.
