MACON —After capturing region titles last weekend, the Sherwood Christian Academy cross country teams continued their momentum at the Georgia Independent Christian Athletic Association state cross country meet on Saturday.

The Eagles outdueled Trinity-Statesboro to take the state championship, while the Lady Eagles finished as the state runner-up.

It was Sherwood’s first cross country state championship in school history.

Jordan Roberts finished second overall to lead the Sherwood boys, finishing with a time of 18:26. Joshua Kendrick finished third, Samuel Orr placed eighth and eighth-grader Collin Phillips finished ninth.

Nathan Roberts, Caleb Thompson and Nathanael Sancinito also competed in the event.

Westminster Christian Academy took top honors on the girls side, but Sherwood’s Samantha Pappas finished third with a time of 21:39. Anna Kendrick finished seventh.

Catherine Kendrick, Caroline Mathis, Alexis Kelley, Chelsey Clements and Emma Urrick also competed.

“I’m as proud as I can be,” said Sherwood Christian cross country coach Mark Meagher. “The kids worked hard to get to this point. They ran the best race of the season.”
