ALBANY – The Sherwood Christian Middle School Eagles capped off their undefeated season on Thursday afternoon with a dominant 46-0 victory over Westwood of Camilla. The win gave the Eagles a perfect 6-0 record for the 2024 season.

The Eagles wasted no time proving their superiority, scoring four times in the first quarter to take a commanding 32-0 lead after just eight minutes of play.

After stopping the Wildcats on their first possession, Sherwood blocked the ensuing punt, and Chris Reid scooped up the ball and ran 20 yards into the end zone for the Eagles’ first touchdown. Lawson Brooks added the two-point conversion, putting Sherwood up 8-0.

On Westwood’s next possession, the Wildcats were forced to punt again. Although they stopped Sherwood on the first play after the punt, on the second play, quarterback Brandon Hemmings found CJ Greer with a sideline pass, and Grier took it 51 yards for the touchdown. Reid ran in the two-point conversion, extending the lead to 16-0.

Westwood was forced to punt a third time, and Reid returned the bouncing ball 60 yards for Sherwood’s third touchdown. After Dyson Harris added the two-point conversion, the Eagles led 24-0.

Before the first quarter ended, Sherwood scored one more time. Following a Westwood fumble, Hemmings threw a pass over the middle to Dylon Harris, who outjumped two defenders to haul in the ball and stroll into the end zone, completing a dominant first quarter with the Eagles ahead 32-0.

With the game well in hand, Sherwood began substituting players. On the first play of the second quarter, Bryson Gay broke free around the left side and sprinted 56 yards for another touchdown, giving the Eagles a 38-0 lead at halftime.

A touchdown pass from Hemmings to Brooks was the only touchdown in the second half. Hemmings finished with three touchdown passes on the day.
