The South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets continued their strong start in conference play Thursday night, rolling to a 98–63 victory over previously unbeaten Albany Tech to move to 2–0 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association.

With the win, South Georgia Tech sits alone atop the GCAA Division I standings at 2–0, followed by East Georgia State at 1–0. Andrew College and Albany Tech are both 1–1, Central Georgia Tech is 0–1, and Southern Crescent Technical College is 0–2.

South Georgia Tech set the tone early and never trailed. The Lady Jets led 23–12 after the first quarter and carried a 43–31 advantage into halftime. They put the game away in the second half by outscoring Albany Tech 29–19 in the third quarter and 24–13 in the fourth.

Sophomore guard Taja Bennett, a Dallas, Texas native, led the Lady Jets with a dominant performance, finishing with 31 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. She also added three assists. Freshman guard Ja’Niya Broome of Hamilton followed closely with 26 points and eight rebounds, along with five assists and a blocked shot.

Jaidyn Elam, a sophomore guard from Pontiac, Mich., was the only other Lady Jet in double figures, scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds for another double-double. Candice Ganga chipped in eight points, while Glory Kaine scored six points and led the team with 15 rebounds. Jada Jones added five points, with Sephora Benth and Sara Mellouck contributing three and two points, respectively.

Albany Tech had three players reach double figures, led by sophomore guard Ava Riley with 17 points. Freshman guard Cloe Evans added 12 points, and Janae Hutcherson finished with 11.

South Georgia Tech improved to 7–10 overall, while Albany Tech fell to 10–7.

The Lady Jets will travel to Swainsboro on Saturday for a GCAA doubleheader against East Georgia State, with the women’s game tipping off at 1 p.m., followed by the men at 3. South Georgia Tech will then head to Waycross on Wednesday to face South Georgia State.

East Georgia State enters the weekend 1–1 in conference play and 4–12 overall, while South Georgia State is 1–1 in the GCAA and 8–8 overall.
