Southwest Georgia comes from behind to down Deerfield-Windsor
SGA 9 DWS 6
ALBANY — What began as a commanding 4-0 lead turned into a frustrating loss for Deerfield-Windsor, as the Knights issued eight walks over the final three innings and watched the Southwest Georgia Warriors rally for a 9-6 comeback win Monday at Addison Field.
The Warriors improved to 18-1 on the season, while Deerfield-Windsor dropped to 14-7-1.
The Knights struck early, scoring two runs in the first inning on RBI singles from Collins Clark and Gage Tomlinson. They added two more runs in the third on another Tomlinson single and a Warrior error on a sharply hit ball by David Hutchins.
Hutchins, who also started on the mound, was in control early and carried a 4-0 lead into the fifth inning before the Warriors began their comeback. Beau Adams and Brody Rogerson opened the fifth with back-to-back singles. After one out, Nate Akers walked to load the bases. Flint Kimbrel followed with a line drive to center to drive in two runs, and Colt Williams was hit by a pitch to bring in a third.
Southwest Georgia took the lead in the sixth inning and chased both Hutchins and reliever Lane Sceals after scoring four runs. Four singles and three walks helped the Warriors head into the seventh with a 7-4 lead.
SGA added two insurance runs in the ninth.
Sawyer Franklin earned the win for the Warriors, pitching six innings and allowing five runs on seven hits. He walked two and struck out five.
The Knights will host Southland on Thursday afternoon and Citizens Christian on Friday afternoon to close out the regular season.
