DAMASCUS — Southwest Georgia Academy has hired Daniel McFather as its new head football coach.

McFather was the head football coach and athletic director at Randolph-Clay for the past eight seasons. The longtime coach is also bringing assistants Timothy Brown and Caleb McFather with him.

“I am extremely excited to be joining Southwest Georgia Academy and becoming the head football coach,” Coach Daniel McFather said. “The Lord has really blessed me with this opportunity, and I look forward to getting to work with the players and seeing what God has in store for the upcoming season. There’s a lot of hard work ahead, but I look forward to it, and look forward to seeing the players at SGA develop as athletes and young men.”

McFather took over at Randolph-Clay in 2009 and had his first season at the school in 2010. He has led the Red Devils to five seasons with five or more victories and taken the school to the Georgia High School Association state football playoffs the past two seasons. He led the Red Devils to a region crown in 2015.

As the school’s athletic director, the Red Devils earned eight combined region titles in football as well as boys and girls basketball.

McFather has served as head football coach at Henry County in McDonough as well as Lanier County. He took Lanier to the state playoffs twice in his eight seasons before returning home to Randolph-Clay.

Brown served as Randolph-Clay’s defensive line coach for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. He attended Lanier County High School and played under McFather as a defensive end and linebacker before graduating in 2005. Brown joined the Navy and served between 2002 and 2006 before returning to his hometown and joining McFather’s staff for the 2015 football season.

Caleb McFather also played under coach Daniel McFather for four years as a quarterback before graduating from Randolph-Clay High School in 2014. He signed an athletic scholarship to Reinhardt University, where he attended during the 2014 football season before returning to join the Randolph-Clay football staff for the 2015 season as a quarterback coach.
