ASU’s Hanson wins Florida event

Albany State’s Tyler Hanson claimed medalist honors Tuesday at the Don Benbow Invitational golf tournament.

Hanson shot rounds of 71 and 70 to finish at 141, one shot ahead of Butler’s Michael Denner and Nathan Cunningham.

As a team, Albany State finished third. IUPUI won the tournament with a team total of 588. Butler was second at 594, Albany State third at 596 and Chicago State fourth at 621.

The Golden Rams’ Dominic DiGiacomo finished fifth.

Big innings lift Pelham

A six-run second inning and an eight-run fifth inning carried Pelham’s baseball team to a 14-2 victory Tuesday over Terrell County.

Doug Curles came up with Pelham’s biggest hit of the game, a grand slam as part of a five-RBI effort. Gunner Wisham went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Cale Whigham was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs on four hits in five innings while striking out nine and walking two.

Worth County falls at home

Cook edged Worth County’s baseball team 2-1 on Tuesday, with Cook scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning on a one-out single.

Worth County scored its lone run in the fourth on a fielder’s choice. The Rams managed just two hits, with Hunter Goodwin striking out seven and walking four on two runs (neither earned) and four hits in a complete-game loss.

Baconton Charter breezes to win

Three runs in each of the first two innings Tuesday carried Baconton Charter to an 11-1 baseball victory over Chattahoochee County.

Spencer Culp, Will Bush and Haden High each had two hits for Baconton Charter. Bush was the winning pitcher, allowing one run on two hits in six innings while striking out seven and walking two.

Terrell Academy tops Byne Christian

Terrell Academy’s baseball team defeated Byne Christian 13-1 on Monday in Dawson.

The Eagles had 11 hits, with Ross West leading the Eagles with four RBI on two hits. Quintard Wright drove in three runs. Ethan Gay pitched a complete game, allowing only two hits to go along with 11 strikeouts.
