Baconton Charter baseball beat Terrell County
Baconton Charter improved to 12-1 overall and 5-0 in Region 1-A play on Thursday with a 10-1 victory at Terrell County.
Taber Raley earned the victory on the mound for the Blazers to improve to 4-0. He allowed just a run on two hits and struck out 10. Will Bush worked two scoreless innings in relief.
Brooks Pinson finished with two doubles and two RBIs to lead the offense, while Brantley Morgan finished with a pair of hits, including a two-run homer in the fourth inning.
The Blazers will travel to Ocilla on Saturday to meet Irwin County in a nonregion game.
Worth County baseball falls to Bainbridge
Cody Reddell allowed just one run on Wednesday, but the Worth County Rams couldn’t get the offense going in a 2-1 defeat to Bainbridge.
Reddell was a workhorse on the rubber, pitching six innings and allowing one earned run, six hits and two walks while striking out three.
The bottom of the third saw Bainbridge take an early 1-0 lead. A solo homer by Keith Lyle started the inning off.
The seventh inning saw the Worth County Rams score their only run on an RBI single by Tripp Goff.
White Sox team considered boycott to back Adam LaRoche
Chicago White Sox players considered boycotting Wednesday’s spring training game against Milwaukee to show support for Adam LaRoche, their former teammate who retired on Tuesday after team president Ken Williams told the slugger that he had to limit the time his 14-year-old son could spend with the team.
ESPN reported that White Sox manager Robin Ventura convinced the players to take the field. Sources said the players were “united” in support of LaRoche, a former Brave.
According to ESPN, “Sources said there is a division between those in the front office and Ventura and his players regarding clubhouse access.”
LaRoche was to be paid $13 million this season. He filed his retirement papers, according to MLB.com, but the White Sox have not yet filed similar documents, which gives LaRoche the opportunity to reconsider his decision.
The 36-year-old struggled last season, hitting .207 with 12 home runs and 44 RBIs in 127 games.
In eight of his 10 seasons, LaRoche hit at least 20 home runs and drove in 75 runs.
