Mets deGrom placed on family emergency medical list
The New York Mets placed right-hander Jacob deGrom on Major League Baseball’s family medical emergency list Saturday due to an issue regarding his newborn baby.
Mets manager Terry Collins said there were “complications” with deGrom’s son.
“We’re all praying and pulling for him,” Collins said.
The 27-year-old deGrom left the team to be with his wife Stacey in Florida during the birth of Jaxon Anthony deGrom on Monday night. He has remained with the family since.
“There’s been some complications, and Jake needs to stay in Florida for a few days,” Collins told reporters. “I’ve spoken to him every day. He’s where you would expect him to be. He’s not been sleeping much, we’re rooting for him, Stacey and the baby to hang in there.”
Collins said deGrom, who has been bothered by a sore muscle on his right side, will proceed with a 40-pitch bullpen session on Sunday and face hitters in Florida on Tuesday. He won his only start this season, giving up one run in six innings.
The bereavement/medical emergency list allows the Mets to replace deGrom on the roster for three to seven days.
The Mets recalled infielder Eric Campbell from Triple-A Las Vegas to replace deGrom.
