Deerfield-Windsor edges Tiftarea

Bo Bueschen’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth gave Deerfield-Windsor’s baseball team a 7-6 victory Friday over Tiftarea.

Bueschen, Jack Kimbrel and Baylin Moore each had two hits for Deerfield-Windsor, while Beau Shirah drove in two runs and Davis Lawson had a double.

Joe Morgan picked up the win in relief.

Squeeze bunt pays off for Crisp County

A bases-loaded, no-out squeeze play in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Crisp County’s baseball team a 7-6 win Friday over Worth County.

Bryce Graddy went 2-for-3 with two RBI for Worth County, Hunter Goodwin went 2-for-3 with a double, while Cason King and Jacob Perrin also had two-hit outings.

Trojans, Wildcats split pair

The Lee County and Valdosta baseball teams closed out the regular season Friday by splitting a doubleheader, with Lee County winning the opener 3-1 and Valdosta taking the second game 7-2.

Lee County had just three hits in the Game 1 win, with Valdosta committing three errors. Layne Wiard was the winning pitcher, with Zach Parrish picking up the save on just seven pitches in the seventh inning.

In the second game, Valdosta’s Avery Stephens homered and Colby Thomas connected on two doubles. Lee County’s Logan Goff went 2-for-3, with Goff, Jacob Barwick and Spencer Hanson picking up doubles. Matt Cooper took the loss.

Terrell Academy perfect in region play

Terrell Academy connected on 13 hits in beating Westwood 6-2 in a GISA Region 3-2A baseball game played Thursday in Dawson.

Ethan Gay, Daniel Myers and Ross West each had three hits for Terrell Academy, with Jay Murdock and Garrett Sloan each adding two hits.

Cameron Jones struck out eight in six innings of work for the win. Terrell Academy finished the regular season 15-2, with a 9-0 region record.

Westover baseball swept

Hardaway swept Westover in a GHSA Region 1-4A baseball playoff series Thursday, winning 5-4 and 6-2.

In the first game, Westover scored four runs in the first. Hardaway tied it in the fourth, going ahead on a run in the seventh. Davis Spalinger went 2-for-3 for Westover in the opener, taking the pitching loss in relief after Patriots starter Kedarrius Cunningham struck out nine in 5-1/3 innings of work.

A two-run fifth inning gave Hardaway a three-run lead in the second game. Hardaway starter Hunter Duke pitched a two-hitter, while Spalinger, who gave up just one earned run between the two games, was the pitcher of record for Westover.

Baconton Charter beats Early County

Spencer Culp struck out eight and scattered three hits in Baconton Charter’s 3-1 baseball victory over Early County.

Culp and Stone Pinson each had two hits. Smith Pinson had a triple.

Byne Christian defeats Sherwood Christian

Seven-run innings in the first and fourth innings were the difference Thursday as Byne Christian defeated Sherwood Christian 19-4.

Colin Dougherty went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Sherwood. Jacob Boyd was the pitcher of record for the Eagles.

Hole-in-one recorded

Steve Owens hit a hole-in-one on the third hole at Flint River Golf Course.

Owens played from the white tee at 135 yards, using an 8-iron. The witnesses were Mike Littleton, Mike Clark and Garrett Shiver.

Knights of Columbus golf results

The foursome of Tony Montgomery, Corey Stallings, Seth Butler and Will Krenson won the 21st annual Americus Knights of Columbus charity golf tournament earlier this month at the Griffin Bell Golf Course, shooting a round of 57.

Finishing in second place at 59 were Mark Goodin, Bobby Underwood, Jimmy Watson and John Werling. Taking third place with a 61 were David Finley, Barry Justice, Ken Akerman and Ron Akerman. Finishing fourth with a 62 were Kathryn Moore, Brent Moore, Jason Williams and Jay Umpleby.

The straightest drive for women was hit by Gloria Parmentier, and the straightest drive for men was hit by John Jackson.

Closest to the pin on the par-3s were Jackson, Werling, Arty Cromer, Terry Salter and Watson.

Scottie Barnes was the winner of the Kirby Smart autographed football.
