GSW softball tops Albany State

Shannon Gibson pitched a five-inning no-hitter Wednesday to lead Georgia Southwestern to a 13-0 win over Albany State in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday.

Gibson struck out four and walked three. She also went 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and two RBI.

Elizabeth Wills went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Hayley Tierce and Lauren Kuerzi each had two hits, as well.

Aryn McGowan took the loss.

Big inning powers Albany State baseball

A seven-run seventh inning, capped by a two-RBI double from Tyler Morris, lifted Albany State baseball to a 7-4 victory Tuesday at Georgia Southwestern.

Riliani Familia went 3-for-4 with a double to pace Albany State’s offense. Morris and Lawrence Hyde each had two hits.

Jason Baita went 2-for-5 for GSW, with Josh Logan picking up a triple.

Tristan Rice pitched seven innings of four-run, six-hit ball to pick up the win. Trey McMillan earned his first save of the season.

Sage Holderfield took the loss, surrendering all seven runs, five earned.

Thomas women fall in conference tourney

Kriza Allen netted 25 points and eight rebounds in Thomas University’s 73-57 loss to the College of Coastal Georgia on Tuesday night in the first round of The Sun Conference tournament in Brunswick.

Allen knocked down eight shots from the field and connected on nine free throws for Thomas. Her 25 points are the second-highest output of the season, only behind 27 points against Life University on Dec. 16.

Thomas ends the season 9-16 overall and 5-13 in the league. The Night Hawks had the sixth seed in the conference tournament.

The Night Hawks led 19-18 after the first quarter but only scored five points in the second, trailing 33-24 at the half. Coastal Georgia outscored Thomas in the third 22-18 and fourth 18-15 to take the win.

Young’s double lifts Thomas baseball

Justin Young’s game-ending double lifted Thomas University to a 5-4 win Tuesday over Brewton-Parker in the second game of a baseball doubleheader.

Brewton-Parker won the first game 7-4.
