Adenike named NJCAA All-American

South Georgia Tech sophomore forward Esther Adenike was selected as a first team All-American by the NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee, South Georgia Tech announced Wednesday.

Adenike helped lead the Jets (29-6) to their second consecutive NJCAA National Tournament appearance.

“It couldn’t happen to a better person,” South Georgia Tech head coach James Frey said. “We are all so excited for Esther ‘Nike’ Adenike. She always has a smile on her face and is always upbeat and positive. She went through a ton of adversity just to get to the United States and to South Georgia Technical College. To see her make the most of this opportunity and work herself into an All-American says a lot about her ability and her character.

“She was determined to become the best player and student she could be. She has worked extremely hard at both and the hard work is paying off. She has over a 3.5 GPA and has Division I scholarship offers from all over the country. That only happens with hard work.”

The 6-foot-2 forward from Lagos, Nigeria, averaged 13.6 points per game. She finished third in NJCAA Division I in rebounding with 318.

Simmons went 0-10 in his only season as Worth County’s head coach.
